KPBS SAN DIEGO (2006-08-03) A Poway high school student who was suspended two years ago for wearing a controversial T-shirt may take his case to the U.S. Supreme Court.

Chase Harper was suspended from Poway High for wearing a T-shirt that read homosexuality is shameful.' He sued the school district, saying his free speech rights were violated. He lost the case because a judge ruled that some speech can offend the rights of other students and should be banned from school. Harper also lost the appeal. His attorney Tim Chandler says the U.lS. Supreme Court is the last option.

This most recent decision, basically says that students cannot express their religious beliefs that homosexuality is wrong. And when you've got a judge saying that quoting the Bible is hate speech that's a sad day for America's students.

Chandler says they have 90 days to file the Supreme Court case. Ana Tintocalis, KPBS News.
